Fatty acid moieties of the steryl esters and triglycerides were studies by mass spectrometry and GC-MS techniques. Possible fragmentation behaviour has been discussed. GLC resulted were in good agreement with MS analysis. Seven Fatty acids (23:0, 23:1; 24:1; 18:21:5:23:6) which have not previously been reported were identified.read more

8-Hydroxyquinoline reacts with phosphorus oxychloride followed by treatment with sodium ethoxide to give ethylquinolinyl phosphate and diquinolinyl phosphate. Mercuration of these products with mercuric acetate, mercuric chloride and mercuric iodide give different monomercurated and dimercurated products. THE STOICHIOMETRY OF THE REACTION BETWEEN PERMANGANATE AND CYANIDE IONS IN AQUEOUS SOLUTION

The stoichiometry between permanganate and cyanide ions in aqueous solution has been investigated. The reaction leading to the formation of a dark brown precipitate is represented by the equation   2MnO4-  + 3CN-  +  H2O  =  2MnO2  +  3OCN-  +  2OH-   Interaction of excess of ice-cooled 3M aqueous potassium cyanide and 0.1M aqueous potassium permanganate, initially produces and unstable manganese (IV) cyano species wich is finally reduced to manganese (III) giving heptapotassium- u-Oxo-bis [pentacyanomanganate(III)] cyanide. SYNTHESIS OF 1-(2-ARYLINDOL-3YL) 2-[3-(p-morpholinophenyl) 6,8-disubstituted-quinazolin-4(3H)-one-2yl] ethenes as CNS ACTIVE AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY AGENTS

Sixteen new title styryl quinazolinones have been synthesized by knoevenagel condensation of 2-methyl-3-(p-morpholinophenyl)6,8-disubstituted-quinazolin-4(3H)-ones with 2-aryl-indol-3-aldehydes in the presence of gl. AcOH. The intermediates, 2-methyl-3-(p-morpholinophenyl) 6,8-disubstituted quinazolin-4(3H)-ones, were prepared by the direct fusion of 6,8-disubstituted-acetyl anthranils with p-morpholinoaniline. Some of the title compounds have shown significant inhibition against carrageenin induced oedema. A definite SAR has also been established. In addition, the compounds were found to be psychotropic (stimulants and depressants) and quite nontoxic. The structures of the unknown compounds were confirmed by elemental and spectral (IR & PMR) analysis. read more

SYNTHESIS OF SOME NEW (beta)-AROYL-(alpha)-[4(1,3-DISUBSTITUTED-2-PYRAZOLIN-5-ONE)] PROPIONIC ACIDS AND 4-PYRAZOLINONYL-PYRIDAZINONES AND THE STUDY OF THEIR ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITIES

(Beta)-Aroylacrylic acid (I) react with 1,3-disubstituted-2-pyrazolin-5-ones in dry benzene to give (beta)-aroyl-(alpha-[4(1,3-disubstituted-2-pyrazolin-5-one)] propionic acids (II). Esterification of IId with diazomethane gives the corresponding methyl ester (III). Reactions of II with hydrazine hydrate and phenylhydrazine afford the corresponding 4-pyrazolinonyl-pyridazinones (V and VI). Dehydration of II yield the butenolides (VII), which undergo ring opening reaction with amines to give the (beta)-substituted (alpha) aroylpropionic acid N-alkylamides (VIII). Reactions of 4-pyrazolinonyl-pyridazinones (V) with anisaldehyde, ethyl bromoacetate, diethylsulfate, Grignard reagents have also been described. The in vitro antibacterial screening reveals substantial activities against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria for compounds IIc and IId; while compounds IIb and Vb are inactive.read more

SOME INVESTIGATIONS OF COPPER (II), NICKEL(II) AND DIOXOURANUM (VI) COMPLEXES OF BIS (SALICYLALDEHYDE) MESO-STILBENEDIIMINE

 Copper (II), nickel(II) and dioxouranium (VI) complexes of bis(salicylaldehyde) meso-stilbenediimine have been prepared and they are assessed spectrophotometrically. The infra-red, thermal gravimetric analysis and conductivity measurements of the complexes have also been recorded. The conductivity measurements indicates that copper (II) and nickel (II) complexes are non electrolytes, but uranium (VI) complex ionizes appreciably in pyridine and dimethyl sulphoxide. TGA of nickel (II) and copper (II) complexes indicates that the complexes decompse at high temperature and leave some residue behind. read more
